Edition #4-Editorial

Hey everyone, its now 3 weeks since college reopened. Most of us are attending lectures, some are busy with TATVA MOKSH ‘o9 (our annual technical and cultural fest) and related work and others are running around for LAKSHYA ‘o9(our sports fest), the others we suspect are clueless about the goings on in college.

That’s where we come in. We brought you an interview with the GS, who told you what was really cooking! And we will do our level best to bring you exciting news of the sports, cult and tech fests as they draw to a close.

This time round we have more for you to read. Since last time people complained of little reading material and a crick in the neck because of the angles.

Campus BuZz is the fruit of our mind, work of our hands and at times the labour of sheer boredom. For that to keep going, we need your contributions and feedback. Write in to-

Dear Arpita,
We are speechless. So we decided to just give you another we got in return.This is in reference to the poem Reminiscence by you in the second edition.
I know it’s late but better late than never. Just reminds me of the time we sat together(sem2) when both of us were new to each other and the whole class. Hope we don’t lose touch after we graduate. You rock ARPITA!!
          -Karen A TE PPT
Dear Eds,
Personally Euro 08 disappointed me a great deal compared to Fifa that I uninstalled it within 48 hours!
But at the end of the day each individual choice and opinion differs...so every virtual football enthusiast must give it a try...
          -Varun Hariharan BE CE
Dear Varun,
Its ok, you don’t have to be apologetic EURO and FIFA are both made by EA. I am sure they don’t prefer one baby over the other.
Dear Eds,
I love the design that you guys are giving to Campus Buzz. Despite the 135 degree angle to the articles, I liked the layout. Compliments to the design team.

Edition #4-Shantilal Battles a cold by Anon

Shantilal battles a cold

In this season of rains Mr. Shantilal Shah
Developed a frightening cold;
So he went to the doctor who’d treated his Pa.
From here does this story unfold.

The doctor was dead; in his place sat a youth,
Who was confident, flashy and smart –
“Your problem”, he said, “let me tell you the truth,
Is no cold, but a hole in the heart”

This surprised Mr Shah, for his forty one years,
Were remarkable free of disease,
If you don’t count his piles, or the wax in his years,
Or his baffling allergy to cheese.

But he went all the same to a cardiac Doc.,
Who had thirteen exotic degrees,
And the 1st thing he said gave our patient a shock,
“Do you think you can manage my fees?”

When the tests were completed, his heart missed a beat,
And he trembled and shook at the knees,
As he stared in alarm at that terrible sheet,
At his bill for five thousand rupees!!

The doctor was brisk; in a tone very bland,
He said he’d located the cause;
The problem was clearly the thyroid gland,
But his heart was as strong as a horse.

When a specialist declared that the thyroid was fine;
Suspicion successively fell –
On his kidneys and lung and his stomach and spine,
But they were acquitted as well.

A surgeon explored his insides all around,
As he searched for a growth in the gut;
In a moment of pique, when it couldn’t be found,
Just grabbed his appendix and cut!!

The doctors then gathered together and made,
Their conclusions and all were agreed;
Psychiatric help and not medical aid,
Was his urgent, immediate need.

An enraged Shantilal, turned a violent pink,
And he thundered, “Enough, I am through!
Indeed, I am sick, but it’s not what you think,
I am SICK of the whole lot of you!!!”

Edition #4-Mumbai Meri Jaan by Vivek Raj Nair(TE EXTC)

Mumbai Meri Jaan
-Vivek Raj Nair(TE EXTC)
“A city which never sleeps” is a phrase that would suit only “Aamchi Mumbai”. Truly a city with a unique spirit and exuberance, whatever happens out here, the life just seems to continue in Mumbai. A small island off the western coastline of India, Mumbai seems quite small and compact on the map of our versatile nation. The versatility of our country however, is best exhibited by this island city of ours.
Being aspiring engineers, we have a mantra in our mind while designing a circuit that is, minimum space and maximum utilization. No one else interprets this better than a Mumbaikar. Whether its gully cricket or 20-20 we have space for everything our gullies and stadiums.
We start every New Year with a bash on the night of the 31st , which hangs over to 1st or even 2nd January. From spending a day with your loved one on Valentine’s Day or celebrating fools day on April the 1st, we do it all. Onam, Pongal, Baisakhi or Durga puja it’s all part of Mumbai life. Diwali or Christmas, lamps or candles, we take care that our city is always lit up. We always come together with an unbreakable spirit and never ending energy that flows through this city. That may be the reason, no matter what the disturbances are, this city’s Cosmo identity is never tarnished.
Bomb blasts or floods, we just have the attitude of ‘all for one and one for all’, and that my friend is Aamchi Mumbai.

Edition #4-Interview with the Rockstar-Sumeet by Deepak Shankargouda

Draped in a black t-shirt featuring some scary, obscure rock band, we are fascinated by our classmate who is also a member of a rock band. Funky specs give him a cool geeky look, but the weird-looking beard reminds us of who he is. It was a brave task for DEEPAK SHANKARGOUDA(TE IT) to ask Sumeet(TE IT) for an interview (you know how they scream).
 DS: Hi, Temme something about yourself.
Sumeet: Hi, I am Sumeet, studying in TE. IT. My hobbies are listening to music, right from classical to extreme metal. But I am a passionate follower of the metal genre. I am also interested in robotics to an extent. But, it’s drumming which I enjoy the most.
DS: Tell us something about the bands you play for.
S: I play for two bands;
‘Gravity’ is an ungeneric experimental progressive band. Progressive bands deal with a more complex form of music compared to other genres. We believe that the music we compose should reflect some ‘Indianness’, we want to be recognized as a progressive Indian band.
‘Catharsis’ (trash metal) is a tight three-piece band having influences like Sepultura, Slayer and the likes. This quenches my thirst for playing heavy music. We believe in playing our originals, and we want to create something on this scene.
DS: Everyone likes music; what inspired you to ‘learn’ music?
S: Music is something which has always been with me, through all the ups and downs of my life. I was acquainted with Western music somewhere in my mid-teens. I was more interested in the work done by the person sitting behind the drums, filling the rhythm in the songs. That is exactly where I decided to specialize. It is not that I listen to Western music alone, also I tried to understand the percussions involved in all other forms of music.
DS: What is your inspiration for your music?
S: I am inspired by everyday heroes.
DS: How did the ‘band’ happen?
S: It all began with our love of music. I had a few friends from my school days who were keen to do it. We did a couple of projects and settled on the genre for the band. It wasn’t easy though. We had to change the lead vocalist fifteen times before zeroing on the current one. We recently added a keyboard player to the group.
Catharsis was formed only recently, the team is pretty much the same but also includes a lead guitarist and another vocalist.
DS: What are your future plans for the bands?
S: It’s only the first year of our bands, but we are in the search of a record deal “he he he….” The only thing we are concentrating on now is performing, and performing well.
DS: Could you share any of your special moments with your band? What is your biggest dream?
S: Well, no special moments as of yet, but I guess one of them is right around the corner.  My dream is simple’ To be the best drummer in the world’.
DS: Any message for music learners?
S: Follow your heart. Do not take music as a career, it’s an art, a form of expression, express yourself and enjoy others’ expressions.
DS: How do you feel about life in SIES?
S: I love the crowd here. They are supportive and friendly, and you never feel away from home. I also like the way the college is managed, its better than most I can see.
DS: Nice talking to you Sumeet. I wish your bands keep rocking!!
S: Its great talking to you. Wish you guys keep on supporting the way you always have.
