Edition # 8 - A LOOK INTO YOUR EYES… By Medha Shanbag (SE CE)

A tree that had long withered
Severed, forgotten how to blossom
But a look, a vent to everything
Everything that was silent
Silent, buried deep within.....
And out gushes a Furore...

A furore
Of pain, of hurt, of dainty denied emotions
Love, hatred, anger, disgust,
Looking upto lost ambitions,
Of fear of reigniting frozen flames,
Scared they will devour,
What little still remains dear.....

Another look and I smile...
Even in pain through the tears,
Smile...for being loved for what I am,
Rather than for what I am expected to be...
Smile for being liberated,
From the golden cage I was in.

Alive was my body but gone was my soul,
Far away from where I was,
But I smile for now I live...
For you brought me love.....my life!!!

A look into your eyes,
Those enigmatic eyes of thine...
Lets me breathe...
Urging...egging me on to smile
To let go, to forgive and to live.

I smile,
For a look into your eyes
Its all I want
And all I will need
When I see my reflection,
When I see a glimpse of me...!!!

Edition # 8 - One Last Time By -Gokul Shankar (TE IT)

I walked with my best friends across the campus, towards my class, my final year engineering class. The hour hand at the watch said it was ten minutes past 4 and there was not even a single trace of any life in the college except for us three me and my best pals.
Another ten steps and there was our class with the doors shut! Had a wish that the time stopped at that very moment but it never happened the second ticked heavily and we opened the doors of the class for one last time.
Wished I cud ask my teacher. "May I come in "and wanted to hear her shout, "You late again, no attendance." But there was no one there, just empty desks and we three, looking at the walls and the desks all empty with quotes we wrote and the classroom where the torture classes were held and the last benches where we had fun. Hiding from the teachers, pleading for attendance. Million memories rolled like a movie into our minds and there was complete silence for a moment and we smiled!!
The entire class was still there alive the last benchers sleeping, the gals chatting amongst themselves. Hari (trying to be creative) sitting besides me, cribbing about something Aditya (topper of our class) sitting on first bench taking down notes, and Teja (thinking that a girl will someday smile back) smiling at the babes, Ajin (wannabe) trying to talk to the gals and we laughing about something of the other, me occasionally scribbling something on my notepad, making some sketches or poetry.
Vineeth (bird-watcher) asked me to look outside and I without even a word looked outside it was an unspoken communication. Shameen (mentally unstable) pinged me and I, with the same enthu looked outside but today there was no one there just the deserted corridor and I could see the IT department at the end.
"Roll number 07..........” "Roll number 07............Gokul....u sleeping again........".
"Ok fine............. roll number 08". "......present ma'm............ ". "You sleep dear...!!!No attendance for you......... "
Wanted to attend one last lecture but this time there was no one to take that last lecture and there was that door open and we wished all the time to run away to bunk. But this time it wasn’t one last time one last time attended the class with no one.
JUST WE THREE…..

Edition # 8 -“The India of my dreams.” By Nikhil Nair

(As expressed by a child of the slums)
As a child we always dream of fantastic places with fairies and all, but my dreams were about school and my life there. There are no fairy-godmothers in this one.

I was walking up to my school and in the place of small thatched rooms stood a solid building. My school had a solid roof and a tiled floor throughout the corridor. My room had solid wooden chairs in various colors! There were fans, lights that worked! And my teacher… boy she was the most different of all. She wore no stern expression; instead she had a welcoming look on her face. That calm and benign look kept me at ease.

The park nearby that had just one slide, a stench and a lot of filth, now had become a wonderful playground. Soft grass, benches, the open gutter was nowhere in sight! I played for what seemed like ages. It felt as though my life had turned around.

I would return home to my mother, and I found Papa there as well! He said he did not have to work overtime any more. He said that I would finally get those books I wanted and that toy car that I said Rajesh had! And guess what! Mama was making rotis for dinner; I had never had rotis when there were no special occasions. And a spanking shiny ‘fridge in the kitchen, packed with pastries and chocolates! Wow, this was it; this was where I wanted to be all my life.

Good schools, good playgrounds, good food at home, brand new books, toys, everything in one day! Was this a dream?

Unfortunately it was, now as I look back, I certainly wish that my childhood had been like that. I certainly wish that that were the country I was living in. I certainly wish that that were MY INDIA!

Edition # 8 - Melody Of Menace By Vignesh Iyer (TE CE)

This day was expected,
After all those persistent warning,
She just let it be,
Her zits are so visible now,
She could have avoided it,
By the time the fluid were formed.

The germs were never this perceptible before,
They have taken the place for granted;
Little had she shook herself then,
And destroyed each one of them,
Maybe she would have lived long.

Now she started to spew things,
And even put our life to menace.
All that barfs are still out,
Unclean!!

My sympathy for her,
Seeing her so green,
Her temperature so high!!

My children,
Stay away from her,
The germs have sucked her well,
And already trying to reach you.

All the smoking,
Has harmed her further,
Those ruthless things!!

They are the monsters of her creation;
Her humble nature has defined her end.

My blistering rays couldn’t help her;
They already shielded themselves from me.

Now I can only pray for her a better end,
Then to sight a corpse revolving amid you.

Now, Let Me shine for you my child.

edition # 7 -What I have Learned About A Best Friend…….. BY Jithin Jacob BE CE

What I have Learned About A Best Friend……..
BY Jithin Jacob BE CE

-There are many good friends around, but best friends are hard to come by.
-You can do something or nothing with a best friend and still have the best time.
-When a best friend is happy, you find yourself happy too, even when it has nothing to do with you.
-Nothing ever sounds stupid, funny, or unbelievable to a best friend, and you never feel stupid saying whatever it is.
-People hears what you say. Friends listen to what you say. Best friends listen to what you don't say.
-Sometimes it feels like a best friend is the only one who will ever care about you and think you are excellent in your own way.
-A best friend stay up all night and on the phone for hours talking without even realizing it.
-A best friend can tell the difference between a silly crush, and more than that.
-You always have that something extra to give to a best friend in need, and can count on that in return.
-When your heart has been broken, a best friend is the best band-aid for it.
-Sometimes the most used part of a best friend is her shoulder which she is willing to lend to cry your heart out
-In many cases, a hug and a kind word from a best friend is the only thing that helps get you through the day.
-A best friend would stick up for you no matter what the consequences are.
-Best friends will always be best friends, no matter what is happening in their lives, where they are, or what they are doing. ..
A best friend is irreplaceable.

Edition # 7 -Awakening Indians to India BY Ryan and Amanda D’souza TE IT

Awakening Indians to India
BY Ryan and Amanda D’souza TE IT
“Swaraj is my birth right, and I will have it”
-Bal Gangadhar Tilak
These words were said by one of Indias most prominent freedom fighters, words that still inspire. Our freedom fighters fought endlessly to free India from British rule. Today, we too fight, only for different goals now. At that time, it was for an independent India, and now it’s for an independent YOU.
Freedom, as defined by the Oxford English Dictionary, is “to not be ruled or controlled by another.” So, technically speaking we have achieved freedom, but are we free?
Our constitution says that, “India is a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic and republican country.” The idea of democracy as given by Mr. Abraham Lincoln is, “government for the people, by the people, of the people.” That means we the people select our government to work for us. Does this happen? Yes, we do select our government, but does it work for its citizens or for its own selfish purposes? I’m not saying this is the scenario of the government as a whole. But it is quite evident that corruption has crept into every level. We do find honest and hard-working ministers who do believe in taking India to great heights but there are so many miscreants that you hardly notice these good ones.
India is said to be a socialist country, I.e., we stress on equality. Also, we stress on which caste do we belong to, we have seat reservations in colleges; we want to know which class you belong to, and so on. Truly, so much of equality! If we were to equal how come we know terms such as ‘minority’ and ‘majority’? How does our religion take over who we are? Our religion is supposed to bind us and not blind us.
And it is not just religion. Our ideas about anything should be such that it allows us, as well as the people around us to grow. That brings us back to freedom. We should be free to express ourselves but at the same time not say or do anything that could cause conflict. We should be free to move but not cripple someone else while doing so.
Such ideas sound so good on paper but will do us good if put into practice. India works with the slogan, “Unity in Diversity.” Let’s change the emphasis from Diversity to Unity. And, there are no better people to do this than the youth of today. Let’s grow towards the goal of a “Socialist and Secular India.”
Let’s awaken Indians to India!

Edition # 7 -Universally English By Nikhil Nair BE-CE

Universally English
By Nikhil Nair BE-CE

Every nation has its own customs, currency and language. When it comes to customs, or currency for any exchange there has to be an understood and accepted norm. This applies to language as well. When different countries come together for a cause or a purpose they must communicate on the same platform. Arising out of the need for a global language, English has become that language because of its popularity.
English is universal in its nature because of the influence of the countries that speak it. America has the largest influence; therefore it comes as no surprise that American English is popular. If you want to communicate on a global scale, you have to stick to English. If you want to be guaranteed large readership, your books must be in English, or at least translated into English. The internet is largely in English, and those sites that are not in English, can be translated into it. The most popular cinema industry has movies in English. Amazing movies like Life is Beautiful was dubbed into English so that a larger audience may be moved by its simple but well told story. The idea is clear, if you want the world to know, it must be in English. Even old literary work like the Panchatantra was translated from Sanskrit to English.
Among us engineers, for those who deal with writing computer programs, syntax is inspired by English. Our loops, our conditional statements are all based on English. The Do- While syntax which is used to run a set of instructions repetitively while a condition is true, is basically English. We do have syntax in Chinese, Hindi and other languages, but they have not gained popularity.
Other languages are not inferior. They are just concentrated to their regions. Sardar Patel had said that it was a mistake to segregate India on the basis of language. But it was done anyway. Thus today we find that wonderful languages like Malayalam, Marathi etc remain secluded and left for only some people to understand. While English spread far and wide.
We could try to create a new order, but to what purpose? English is performing its job as a means for communication very well. If there is any language that has functionally more advantages than English today, by all means change it to that. But as things stand today there is no such need.

Edition # 7-The ROBOTICS SEMINAR By Kaustubh Labhe SE EXTC

The ROBOTICS SEMINAR
By Kaustubh Labhe SE EXTC

The Robotics event, held under ‘Tatva ‘09’, was extravagant and huge, maintaining its legacy. The event attracted a lot of crowd, with participants and spectators from various Navi Mumbai and Mumbai colleges. One of the reasons for the same, being the inclusion of a new event called as ‘Autonomous Robotics’. Apart from that there were four Level 1 events namely Robo Sumo, Robo hurdles, Robo F1 and Soccer. The events were conducted on all three days of the fest, with qualifying rounds on first two days and finals on the concluding day. The response seen for all the events was tremendous in spite of the scorching heat and ‘no music’ near the Amphitheatre!!
The event heads did a marvelous job of designing and setting their tracks, with a little support from some volunteers. The turns and twists in the tracks of F1 and Hurdles, gave a hard time for some of the participants, thus toughening the competition. Robo Sumo was purely a game ‘for the robots, of the robots’. The toughest and the meanest of them were claimed the winner. The volunteers didn’t leave any stone unturned to ensure a smooth flow of the events. At the end of the day, robotics was a success, with the event heads finally sipping their coffee, satisfactorily.
