Edition #2- Cognition 'o8 A glimpse

For all those people who like to come off as cerebral giants, and decide to stay home during the college fest, we take some pity and decided to give you a brief account of what happened...and next time SHOW UP! !! for now here is...

COGNITION ‘o8-A glimpse

ROBO MAZE:

This event was intended to be confusing as a maze. The participants were blindfolded which lend a new aspect to ordinary Robotics event. Five teams qualified to the final round by getting the best possible time, and then the robot controllers were directed by their team mates who were not blindfolded- to complete the maze. Excellent idea! was the response of most participants. The event head called us back to specifically thank Radhika, Adheer and Aditya for their help.

Technical Paper Presentation:

With all the advertising for this event, we don’t need to describe it to you. The competition between the presenters was tough. Each group trying to get their hands on 7 precious points which would help them win the departmental shield. To keep the judging fair -on the technical topics-HODs of Comps, IT and EXTC were asked to judge. Everyone felt that the judging was unbiased. PPT was adjudged the winner, and EXTC got second place.

Tech Race:

The Tech race, is claimed to be an amazing race with technical questions. The majority of the participants were completing rounds of the event and of college. The participants had to race to checkpoints to proceed to the next checkpoint. There were three stages, two of which were meant for elimination of the large participation they got. If you didn’t win there were consolation prizes of ‘lost’ calories. Common opinion is divided between whether it was technically an amazing race or amazingly a technical race.

ROBO Soccer:

The debutante this year was the adrenaline pumping Robo Soccer. Something Edwin Van Der Sar and Buffon might not be able to handle. Little robots were placed on a miniature football field to prevent the other robots from scoring a goal. In that process they were bulldozed by their strong competitors as if a piece of cake. For being a formidable competitor one needs technique, skill and RAW power. The event got a good response, the reason is owed to the fact that there are robotics and soccer fans lying all over the place. Some of the people who didn’t win were heard shouting football shutball hayo rabba.

Solutions:

Solutions 08 this time became a reality this Cognition. Three rounds-eliminations, semi finals and finals. The eliminations were a written test in which about ten teams participated. They were set to the task of clearing the semi finals. The finals were held and after three rounds of gruelling brain teasers TE Comps walked away with the top honours-the first and second positions. TE IT and TE EXTC drew for the last spot. The sore loser was overheard saying the event was to illustrate the system of eliminations, semi-finals and Finals.

JAM-Just A minute:

JAM, as promised, was the craziest event of all in COGNITION’08. Already had more than 40 participants, but its vibrant vibes attracted lot of spot entries. The event was a success with a variety of things like Pictionary, story-telling, etc done in just a span of a Minute. In short , the Quadrangle was heated up with blabbers.JAM as rightly stated Josh And Masti stood true to its name in Just A Minute.

Event Head- Divya Shivakumar, Ramneet Kaur TE EXTC

Code WarZ:

The arena was set and ready for ace coders of SIESGST to set the comps on fire with their C and C++programming skills. It was purely a programming event and everyone tried hard to crack the tough questions set by us in the "Race against time". The logic used was great and output was perfect for some while, others didn’t get it quite right. All in all it was a fun event which everyone enjoyed.

Our regrets for not being able to include other events... like the Debate, Tech Quiz, the Music show etc. Due to major gaps in communication, we couldn’t get the reports on those events. The fest went off really well. A HUGE HURRAH!! for the overall success of COGNITION ‘o8. The whole Campus BuZz would like to give a major pat on the back of Organizers, as would every student in college. Good SHOW! A part of this fest was a contest for BEST DEPT., BEST CLASS and BEST Class REP... and THE AWARD GOES TO:-*DRUM ROLL*
